Andrea Joy Campbell was sworn in as the 45th Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2023, pledging to build economic prosperity and stability for all residents.
After graduating from Boston Latin School, Andrea became the first in her family to graduate from college and law school, receiving her degrees from Princeton University and UCLA Law School. Andrea then worked as a legal services attorney defending the rights of children and their families — particularly those with disabilities. She also served the public as General Counsel at the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, working across 101 cities and towns to address regional challenges like healthcare access, affordable housing, and climate change.
Before becoming Attorney General, Andrea successfully ran for the Boston City Council in 2015, becoming the first woman to represent District 4 on the Council. Her first piece of legislation was the Community Preservation Act, which still generates over $20 million annually for new affordable housing, historical preservation, and parks and open space. In 2018, she was unanimously elected City Council President – the first Black woman to hold that title.

Cyndi began her career as a community organizer and educator in Chinatown. She taught English as a Second Language to parents at the Josiah Quincy School and citizenship classes to immigrants at the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA). When hundreds of garment workers lost their jobs, she helped to train them for jobs in financial services institutions. She also helped establish CPA’s Worker Center, the first immigrant worker center in New England.
Community organizing work inspired Cyndi to attend law school and then dedicate a long legal career as a public interest attorney. For ten years, she was the managing attorney of Greater Boston Legal Services’ (GBLS) Asian Outreach Unit. As a legal aid attorney, Cyndi represented thousands of low-wage immigrant workers, advocated for language access, and was instrumental in securing bilingual ballots in Chinese and Vietnamese for Boston voters.
Cyndi joined the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General in 2015 as Chief of the AG’s Fair Labor Division. In 2020, Cyndi was promoted to Chief of the Public Protection & Advocacy Bureau, where she oversees the AG’s work in civil rights, consumer protection, and fair labor. Cyndi’s leadership supported the recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of workers and consumers.
Whether advocating for the rights of low-wage immigrant workers or elderly voters, or improving community access to the AG’s Office, Cyndi has always found ways to bring people together to address injustices and to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people among us.
Cyndi is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Tufts University. Among her many accolades, she has been honored with the Access to Justice - Legal Services Award by the Massachusetts Bar Association, Dow-Gardiner-Landrum Award by GBLS, Worker Justice Award by CPA, Keeper of the Flame Award by the Lawyers for Civil Rights, and the Founders Award by the Asian American Lawyers of Massachusetts.

Jean Lukitsh moved from Pittsburgh to Boston in 1978 to study tai chi with Bow Sim Mark at the Chinese Wushu Research Institute. In 1979, she began working at the Star and China cinemas in Chinatown, which led to a lifelong obsession with Chinese movies. When the theaters closed in 1987, she enrolled at the MGH Institute of Health Professions and was awarded an MSN in gerontology nursing.
She worked at South Cove Manor Nursing Home from 1989 to 2014. She has written extensively on the history of kung fu movies. In 2005, Jean became involved with the Asian Community Development Corporation’s Films at the Gate festival as the founding film curator and has been involved with the event, working with ACDC and their A-VOYCE youth for 20 years.
