Chinatown Pedestrian Safety Campaign

UPDATE: In early September, the pedestrian signal on Kneeland Street and Harrison Avenue increased from 12 seconds to 20 seconds! This is a direct result of the youth's campaign.

In the summer of 2016, ACDC partnered with Chinatown youth, Chinatown Main Street and WalkBoston to launch a pedestrian safety campaign. The youth conducted many interviews, surveyed Kneeland Street to document instances of traffic violations, not yielding to pedestrians on their right of way, and average crossing times.

The youth compiled their research into a report and presented their findings as well as suggestions for structural improvements to the Boston Transportation Department. Councillor Andrea Campbell also attended the presentation and applauded the youth for their inspiring work and passion for taking care of the community.

The video below chronicles real-life examples and interviews with Chinatown residents and community members on the dangers of crossing Kneeland Street.
