ACDC’s youth group, A-VOYCE, has been working for the past month on a social enterprise project for the United Way Youth Venture. A-VOYCE is building off of their project last year, Project Stitch, which endeavors to create an online community for API and minority youth to share their stories so that they feel less isolation. Some of the topics they are tackling include parental pressure and bullying.
The Project Stitch team created a business plan requesting seed money of $1,000 for additional equipment and video editing classes so that they can gain the media skills necessary to take their social enterprise to the next level.
The judging panel consisted of local business and education leaders, who were all very impressed by the youth’s public speaking skills and well-articulated plan for effecting community change.
Project Stitch received mentorship and guidance from employees of Gilbane Inc., a real estate construction company.
Hats off to Project Stitch for their successful pitch! Best of luck to this youth venture!
ACDC thanks the United Way and Gilbane for their support!
